Justin Beatty is a multi-disciplinary artist of Native American (Ojibwe, Saponi) & African-American descent. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (UMass), which is a land grant university. This means that areas of Native American lands were taken for use as state educational institutions.

We Are Still Here depicts the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus with an oversized portrait of Mashantucket Pequot tribal member Albert Zamora on the horizon.
